former Supreme Court Judge  Santosh Hegde expressed complete disappointment with Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested in connection with a money-laundering case related to the excise policy.

Former Solicitor General of India, Justice (retd) Hegde, was one of the important figures, along with Mr. Kejriwal, in the ‘India Against Corruption’ movement led by Anna Hazare over a decade ago. This movement drew attention to the problem of corruption at that time.
He stated that when someone is in a position of power, greed can take over, referring to the case involving Arvind Kejriwal.
Santosh Hegde “I’m really let down by Kejriwal. I believed that AAP, once in power, would ensure fair administration, but that’s not the case. It shows how power can corrupt, as the saying goes, ‘power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.'”

After some of the movement members formed a political party (AAP), Justice (retd) Satosh Hegde, who was the former Karnataka Lokayukta, distanced himself from it.

Santosh Hegde”I decided to step back because politics nowadays is filled with corruption. Every political party has it. The India Against Corruption movement aimed to fight corruption within the administration.”

“Our principle was to stay away from politics and work on cleaning it. However, some people wanted to enter politics and clean it up, which I didn’t believe could be done successfully. What’s happening in AAP now is an example of what I thought was right,” Mr. Hegde said.

He said Arvind Kejriwal visited his home to invite him to join the party, but he declined the offer.
Mr. Hegde also expressed his opinions on the frequent accusations made by opposition parties against the BJP-led NDA government. They claim that the government is misusing Central agencies like the ED and CBI in corruption cases to target them.
Opposition parties claim that the ruling party is targeting them to weaken the opposition. I disagree with this claim. While it’s true that they are selectively pursuing cases, it’s not illegal. In criminal law, there’s no provision for equal treatment under Article 14 of the Constitution.
“If they come to power one day, they’ll target the BJP. So, will that be fair? If they don’t act against the opposition now, they won’t do it when they’re in power either. At least now, some justice is being served,” he explained.
“In the next Lok Sabha elections, Hegde expressed his wish for every eligible person to vote.”
“Vote regardless of caste or affiliation. Choose candidates based on their quality. If you don’t find a suitable candidate, you can vote for NOTA (None of the Above). This sends a message to political parties that every person isn’t a suitable politician,” he said.”
