“Rinky Chakma, crowned Miss India Tripura 2017, passes away at 28 after a long battle with cancer”

“Rinky Chakma, crowned Miss India Tripura in 2017, passed away at the age of 28 following a courageous two-year fight against cancer. Despite undergoing surgery and showing remarkable strength, her health deteriorated, leading to her unfortunate demise.”

“Once a celebrated figure on the stage as Miss India Tripura, Chakma’s life took a challenging turn when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022, as per Femina reports. Initially, the battle seemed conquerable, but unfortunately, the cancer spread to her lungs and head, culminating in a brain tumor.”

“On February 22, Chakma was admitted to the ICU at Max Hospital in Saket, Delhi, where she received ventilator support due to the critical nature of her condition. Sadly, her lungs, significantly weakened by the aggressive cancer, deteriorated rapidly, ultimately resulting in her passing.”
“Last month, in a deeply personal post on her Instagram account, Chakma bravely opened up about the challenging path she had been on. She disclosed, “I was diagnosed with Malignant phyllodes tumor (breast cancer) in 2022. After my initial surgery, it spread to my lungs and now to my head (brain tumor). My brain surgery is pending as the cancer has spread extensively from my right side to my lungs. It will only be feasible after undergoing chemotherapy, with only a 30% chance of success.”
“She mentioned in a post four weeks ago that she was undergoing chemotherapy sessions and seeking donations after exhausting all the family’s savings on treatment.”
“My family has been facing hardships, and the past two years have been particularly challenging with frequent hospitalizations and medical appointments. We’ve used up all our savings for my treatment during this time. Sharing my story and seeking donations is a way for me to cope and feel supported,” she wrote.

In her final post, she had kindly asked for messages instead of calls, explaining, “I am too weak to handle calls with my ongoing treatments. Please send messages. Also, keep me in your prayers. Sending love and healing to everyone,” expressed Chakma.

Chakma was honored with the “Beauty with a Purpose” award during her participation in the Miss India pageant. Manushi Chillar emerged as the winner of the pageant in 2017.
