OnePlus introduces AI Eraser tool using its own technology called ‘proprietary LLM’ to compete with Samsung.

Proprietary LLM:– The AI Eraser tool will be on specific OnePlus phones like OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus 11, OnePlus Open, and the new OnePlus Nord CE 4, beginning April.

OnePlus introduced its AI Eraser, using generative AI technology. The feature relies on a proprietary LLM that’s trained on a large dataset to understand complex scenes. Users can replace unwanted objects with appropriate elements, but OnePlus didn’t provide technical details or information about the data source.

Proprietary LLM:– The AI Eraser will come to certain OnePlus phones like the OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus 11, OnePlus Open, and the new OnePlus Nord CE 4 starting in April. More devices might also get this feature soon. OnePlus will share more about their availability and updates later. It seems OnePlus is working on more AI features for its devices too.

Proprietary LLM:- “We’re excited about AI Eraser, OnePlus’ first feature using generative AI technology. It’s the beginning of our vision to enhance user creativity through AI and change how photo editing is done. With just a few taps, users can create amazing photos. We’re planning to introduce more AI features this year, and we’re eager for their release,” said Kinder Liu, President and COO of OnePlusP

Like with all generative AI technologies, OnePlus is focusing on making sure that the AI-generated content is accurate and reliable. They’re investing heavily in research and development to achieve this, but they’re not providing more details at the moment.
OnePlus is trying to catch up with Samsung, which took a leading position earlier this year with its Galaxy AI-powered S24 series. Samsung partnered with Google to use Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI for cloud-based generative AI features on the S24, and Gemini Nano for on-device tasks. They also got exclusive access to features like Circle to Search, which later came to select Pixel devices.
Samsung’s OneUI 6.1 is packed with AI features. It can add or remove objects from photos, create personalized wallpapers, translate languages, take and organize notes, transcribe audio into different languages, and even suggest writing styles.
Furthermore, Samsung aims to introduce Galaxy AI to a massive 100 million devices this year. The rollout has already started, beginning with last year’s flagship phones such as the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Z Fold 5.
