Could you share some details about your series “Family Aaj Kal” airing on Sony LIV?
apoorva arora- When I read the script, I found it really interesting and couldn’t stop reading. That’s when I asked my team to secure it for me. Anushka, the producer, believing in the script was reassuring, and I trusted her instincts. Plus, working with friends I’ve collaborated with before is always enjoyable. I knew we’d create something we’re proud of. Although there’s pressure to meet each other’s expectations, it’s also exciting.
apoorva arora- What makes “Family Aaj Kal” different from other family shows in your opinion?
This show is different from other family shows because it offers a fresh take on family challenges. It explores common disagreements within families, revealing insights into relationships. It also addresses issues of discrimination faced by some individuals. It reminds us that our perspective may not always be fair, and it’s important to consider others’ viewpoints. I think viewers will find this portrayal of family life refreshing and relatable.
With my parents, we have a kind of understanding without needing to talk about it. They can tell from my voice if I’m interested in someone romantically or just friends with them. It’s a mutual trust. If something gets serious, I’ll talk to them about it formally, but for now, there hasn’t been a need to.
apoorva arora- How do you manage your personal life alongside your work, especially in such a demanding industry like Bollywood? Do you even find time for dating?
Honestly, I don’t find it hard to manage my personal and professional lives because acting isn’t like a regular job. Some days are super busy with work, so I barely have time to eat, while other days are more chill, giving me time to hang out with friends. Since my schedule isn’t fixed, I can still plan my time well without having to be in the office every day. I do make time for relationships, and it’s been going well in the past, probably because I’ve mostly dated people from the industry or those who get how demanding being an actor can be.
Are there any genres or types of roles you haven’t explored yet but would like to in the future?
I haven’t tried psychological thrillers much. Although I’ve practiced them in scene work, I haven’t played such roles on screen yet. I’m excited to tackle a complex character with layers of complexity, one that requires thorough research and preparation.
Do you have any hobbies or activities you enjoy doing apart from acting to relax?
In the past, you’ve faced some controversies. How do you handle criticism or negative attention, especially with social media being so prevalent?
I consider myself fortunate that I haven’t encountered as many controversies as some of my colleagues have, despite being in the industry for a while. I’ve been lucky to have avoided a lot of negativity. I think I can handle it well because I know what I’ve done and what I haven’t. I’m confident in where I stand, and that confidence helps me stay strong when things don’t go as planned. When you know you’re right, nothing can shake your confidence.
Who are the people who inspire you the most, both in and out of the entertainment world?
Among all the people who have influenced me, Smita Patil stands out the most. My dad introduced me to her films at a young age and encouraged me to study her performances closely. I also followed Konkona Sen Sharma’s career closely, which proved beneficial. Additionally, figures like Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Greta Gerwig, and Amrita Pritam have had a significant impact on my writing and thought process. In sports, Rohit Sharma has been a major influence due to his leadership qualities and the lessons one can learn from him.
Do you have any new projects or roles that you’re really looking forward to?
I’m working on a show with Rohan Sippy, and it has a fantastic cast. I can’t reveal much about it yet, but hopefully, when it’s announced later this year, people will see me in some very different roles, which I’m excited about. Also, there are some projects I’ve completed in the last three years that are yet to be released.
